Route Description:

Welcome to our 4x4 route. The route consists of a basic route the BLUE route with difficult loop sections. The Blue route does not require special 4x4 skill and follows old farm routes and contours to almost the highest point on the map. The RED route follows the blue route most of the time and follow loops out of and back to the blue route and require skill.

Please Note:

After rain USE ONLY THE BLUE ROUTE AND BE AWARE that you might need to pass oncoming traffic in some sections. RED routes are preffered one way. RED route travellers would need a vehicle with low gear and a difflock. The route starts at the kiosk, return the way you came in and follow the turn-off to the left. Pass through the first gate. You find the first RED route turn-off to the left after a few hundred meters.

BLUE follow straight on and the routes meet at the vineyard. You would turn right (BLUE) at this point and follow the edge of the field (work in progress) and meet up with the farm road again. Another RED route turns off to the right further on, this takes you through the gate at the first viewpoint (picnic).

At the gate:
The preffered route is to the left marked RED and not difficult but only if you have low gear. The BOOMSLANG LOOP is for RED ROUTERS ONLY, there is some steep gradients on this section. Alternatively turn right to the viewpoint and follow the BLUE route. It follows the first contour and later takes a steep climb to the second contour. At the sugarbush turnoff please engage to 4x4 before the climb as the road is sandy/clay. This is the only part of the route where passing oncoming vehicles needs to be handeled. Blue routers carry on and follow the second contour to the turn about point. Red routers turn left (sugarbushloop)

At the BLUE turn about:
At the turnabout at the end of the contour you might want to check the next section, a steep climb before driving up to the very top. Have a picnic and enjoy the view. It's very slippery when wet . The preffered route downhill is the blue route via the contours. Turn right after the gate at the first viewpoint and follow the route around the vineyard to the dam area. This is a picnic area under huge pines. From here you can follow the signboards back to the kiosk / teagarden through another pine forest. There you can have refreshments to cool your day off or take a walk through Sonderprys Nursery. You may also choose to to take the turn off just past the dam braai area to the Granny’s Forest braai area which is in walking distance from the Teagarden, playground, kiosk etc. I hope you have enjoyed the journey and views, and be sure to come again.
